Two weeks to go as Africa Energy Indaba 2026 prepares for high-level continental energy dialogue
Ministers, investors and utilities to convene in Cape Town to accelerate power sector investment and universal energy access
With just two weeks remaining, momentum is building rapidly for the upcoming Africa Energy Indaba, one of the continent’s most influential gatherings focused on energy policy, investment and infrastructure development.
This year’s edition will convene fifteen African Energy Ministers, the African Union Commissioner, representatives from Africa’s Power Pools, continental utilities, and leading investors, regulators and infrastructure developers under one roof.
The event continues to position itself as a strategic platform where policy direction is shaped, procurement priorities are discussed and high-impact energy partnerships are forged.
“The Africa Energy Indaba provides a critical platform for alignment between governments, utilities, investors and solution providers. With ministerial participation at this level, meaningful dialogue can translate into tangible action,” said Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba.
Driving Investment and Action Across Africa’s Power Sector
As Africa faces one of the defining development challenges of the decade, closing the energy access gap has become increasingly urgent. To meet growing demand, expand capacity and achieve universal electricity access by 2030, the continent requires a dramatic scale-up in infrastructure and capital deployment.
Estimates suggest Africa needs between US $450 billion and US $500 billion in power sector investment by 2030, equating to roughly US $60 billion to US $65 billion per year. This funding is essential to expand generation capacity, strengthen transmission networks and accelerate access across both urban and rural regions.
Infrastructure shortfalls continue to leave hundreds of millions without reliable electricity. At the same time, financing gaps, particularly in clean and renewable energy, must be addressed to unlock broader economic growth, industrialisation and long-term energy security.
Against this backdrop, Africa Energy Indaba 2026 will host a comprehensive programme designed to facilitate collaboration and practical outcomes. Highlights include Mission 300 Day hosted by the World Bank, AfDB, GEAPP, SEforALL and the Rockefeller Foundation, the Indaba Energy Leaders Dialogue hosted by Pele Green Energy, and the Ministerial Roundtable hosted by AUDA-NEPAD and GET.invest.
Delegates can also expect the Power Pools Forum, in-depth Energy Forums exploring key sector themes, a dynamic Exhibition Showcase featuring leading energy technologies and solution providers, and the South African Energy Investment Forum hosted by the Department of Electricity and Energy.
As Africa accelerates grid expansion, renewable integration and infrastructure investment, the Indaba offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with the decision-makers shaping the continent’s energy future.
