Base Titanium to expand in Lamu County

Base Titanium has announced plans to expand operations in Lamu County Kenya. The company has submitted three prospecting license applications, targeting Lamu County and the border of Lamu and Tana River County.

The General Manager for External Affairs, Simon Wall, commended the Cabinet Secretary of Mining for lifting the moratorium on mining. This regulatory change is expected to have a positive impact on the mining sector in Kenya.

CSR activities

The company is recognized for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the communities where it operates. These efforts focus on empowering local communities and environmental restoration. The Lamu Governor, Issa Timamy, expressed hope that similar initiatives would be implemented in Lamu when mining operations commence there.

Base Titanium is not only looking at Lamu County but also has other prospective applications in Kwale West, specifically in the Kuranze area of Kinango County. This suggests the company’s broader interest in expanding its presence in the Coastal region of Kenya.

The company appears is optimistic about finding mineral deposits in Lamu County, similar to what they found in Kwale County. This optimism likely drives their interest in exploring new areas. Lamu Governor Issa Timamy welcomed the company’s move and expressed hope for the successful exploration of minerals in Lamu. This indicates local support for the potential economic benefits associated with mining activities.

As the company’s operations in Kwale County are set to conclude in 2024, their expansion plans into Lamu County and other areas in the Coastal region will likely be of significant interest to the local communities, the mining sector, and regulatory authorities.
