Afrimat clears Competition Commission hurdle in acquisition bid

The Competition Commission of South Africa approved Afrimat’s proposed acquisition of Ochre and Shimmer.
In a statement the Competition Commission expressed the view that this acquisition “is unlikely to substantially lessen or prevent competition in any market (and) does not raise significant public interest concerns”.
Afrimat, through its iron ore subsidiary, is set to acquire rights to mine iron and manganese at Ochre Shimmer’s Farm Doornfontein 446. Afrimat already produces iron in three sites in the Northern Cape, namely Demaneng, Jenkins, and Driehoekspan.
