Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office transitions to 100% online compliant
The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has transitioned to being 100% online compliant in order to enhance its revenue generation capacity and improve efficiency.
The Director General of the MCO, Obadiah Nkom, highlighted this development during an interview in Abuja. He expressed his commitment to revitalizing the mining sector to stimulate economic growth and development nationwide.
Electronic mining cadastre system
The MCO introduced an electronic mining cadastre system called eMC+, which was officially launched on November 1, 2022. The primary objective of this system is to enhance service delivery, promote transparency, and ensure easy access to information. By implementing the online system, the MCO aims to facilitate the growth and development of the mining sector.
Adhering to compliance requirements, the MCO made it mandatory for people to utilize the online system. Since the launch of the online portal, there has been significant progress, with the utilization rate increasing from 0% to 40%. To familiarize the public with the system and raise awareness, the MCO has initiated public enlightenment campaigns across the country, with the support of its zonal offices.
The transition to an online platform allows the MCO to streamline its processes, simplify procedures for stakeholders, and improve overall efficiency. By leveraging technology, the MCO aspires to attract investment, promote responsible mining practices, and contribute to the growth and development of the mining sector in Nigeria.
