Metalite Resources issues update on lithium exploration activities in Liberia
Metalite Resources Inc. recently acquired Next Generation Resources Inc., which has provided the company with control and access to a portfolio of properties in Liberia. These properties are located in an under-explored portion of the West African craton and are highly prospective for lithium, rare earth elements, base metals, and gold.
Metalite’s portfolio consists of eight Reconnaissance Licenses, which are either granted or pending approval. These licenses cover a total area of 3,228 square kilometers and are strategically distributed across Liberia, targeting exploration hotspots. The areas of interest have been identified based on the presence of pegmatites, coltan, rare earth elements, base metals, and gold occurrences that have been mapped and reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
Battery metals exploration
In 2022, Metalite conducted initial site visits, reconnaissance soil sampling, prospecting, and mapping programs across its license areas. A significant number of soil and rock samples were collected during these activities, with a focus on pegmatites. A total of 7,764 soil samples and 137 rock samples were collected for analysis.
To analyze the collected samples, Metalite is using a portable handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) device. This device provides elemental analysis of the samples and helps identify anomalous results. Based on the initial XRF analysis, selected anomalous samples will be sent to a laboratory for further geochemical analysis.
As part of Metalite’s exploration efforts, 444 soil samples and 137 rock samples have already been sent to the laboratory for analysis. The results from these analyses will provide valuable insights into the mineral potential of the exploration areas.
Metalite considers its presence in Liberia as a first mover advantage for battery metals exploration. Given the under-explored nature of the region and the presence of significant mineral occurrences, Metalite aims to leverage this advantage to unlock the potential for lithium, rare earth elements, base metals, and gold deposits in Liberia.
