Lithium Africa prepares for July drilling campaign at Springbok lithium project

The company will undertake a 3,500 m drilling programme at the historic Norrabees mine as it seeks to define a new mineral resource and unlock additional value from existing spodumene stockpiles

Lithium Africa is advancing development of its Springbok lithium project in South Africa’s Northern Cape, with preparations underway for a major drilling campaign scheduled to begin in July 2026.

The mineral exploration company said the project includes the historic Norrabees lithium pegmatite mine and its associated spodumene stockpile, situated within a five-hectare mining permit area.

As part of its ongoing exploration efforts, Lithium Africa has completed a revised geological assessment of the Norrabees system and is preparing to launch a 3,500 m drilling programme comprising 1,500 m of diamond drilling and 2,000 m of reverse circulation drilling. The campaign is designed to define a new mineral resource and further evaluate the project’s lithium potential.

The company has also progressed the resampling and sale process for the existing spodumene stockpile, which could provide an additional avenue for value generation.

Commenting on the project’s progress, Lithium Africa CEO Tyron Breytenbach said Springbok had advanced rapidly over the past quarter.

“Springbok has moved quickly over the past quarter. We have reset our structural understanding of the Norrabees system, mobilised the team and equipment for a meaningful drill programme designed to define a new mineral resource, and continue to evaluate the monetisation of the stockpile,” he said.

The drilling programme will target the Norrabees I and Norrabees II pegmatites, as well as a newly identified spodumene-bearing pegmatite extension located between the two deposits.

Recent structural mapping has led to a revised interpretation of the dip direction of the Norrabees pegmatites and identified a new surface extension of lithium mineralisation. Previous drilling in the area returned intercepts of 32.7 m grading 1.09% Li₂O, highlighting the project’s exploration potential.

Lithium Africa has appointed Van Zyl Drilling as the drilling contractor for the programme. Drilling activities are expected to commence following the completion of camp upgrades, with an early July 2026 start targeted.

The company believes the upcoming campaign will provide critical data to support future resource growth and advance the development of the Springbok project as a potential lithium producer.
