531 carats diamond unearthed from Karowe Diamond Mine

Carats of diamond totaling 531 were unearthed from the Karowe Diamond Mine in Botswana. Lucara Diamond Corp who made the discovery announced that recovered diamonds include; a 320-carat stone, a 111-carat stone, and two additional stones weighing over 50 carats each.

Quality

These diamonds were obtained from the direct milling of EM/PK(S) kimberlite ore from the South Lobe during a recent production run. Among the notable recoveries, the 320-carat diamond is described as a gem-quality, top light brown diamond, while the 111-carat diamond is identified as a Type IIa white stone of high quality. The two additional stones weighing over 50 carats each are also classified as Type IIa white diamonds.

These recent recoveries further solidify Lucara’s reputation as a leader in the retrieval of large, high-quality diamonds. The success in recovering these diamonds from the EM/PK(S) unit highlights the ongoing effectiveness of Lucara’s mining operations at the Karowe Diamond Mine.

The discoveries contribute to the company’s plans for the development of the underground mine, which is set to target over 95% EM/PK(S) ore during its initial three years of production. Lucara attributes its continued success in identifying and retrieving extraordinary diamonds to its adoption of advanced diamond recovery technology and strong resource performance.
