Lotus Resources ships first uranium from Kayelekera mine

The first shipment of approximately 145,000 pounds of uranium concentrate is heading to Walvis Bay, with delivery to French nuclear fuel company Orano expected by year-end

Lotus Resources Limited has announced the first shipment of uranium from its Kayelekera mine in Malawi.

The first shipment comprises four containers carrying approximately 145,000 pounds of uranium ore concentrate (U₃O₈), which have departed the Kayelekera site and are bound for Walvis Bay in Namibia.

A shipment booked to depart in November will be delivered to Orano CE Malvesi in France, with arrival expected by the end of the year.

Further shipments are expected to leave the site before the end of 2026.

“The successful despatch of product from Kayelekera is a pivotal moment for Lotus and is one of the final steps in delivering product to customers and beginning to generate revenue and cashflows. At the same time, we continue to focus on optimising the Kayelekera operations and ramping up production,” said Lotus Managing Director Greg Bittar.
