EPC Mineex secures €50 million blasting contract at Senegal’s Sabodala gold mine
The five-year agreement with Endeavour Mining will cover the supply of nearly 45,000 tonnes of explosives, integrated blasting services and specialised underground charging technology, while supporting local skills development
EPC Mineex Sénégal, a subsidiary of explosives and blasting services provider EPC Groupe, has secured a five-year contract worth approximately €50 million with Endeavour Mining to supply explosives and integrated blasting services at the Sabodala gold mine in Senegal.
The agreement is valued at approximately €10 million annually at full operating capacity and covers the entire blasting value chain across the Sabodala mining complex. It is reported that EPC Mineex will produce and deploy nearly 45,000 tonnes of explosives over the contract period to support the mine’s extraction operations.
The scope of work extends beyond explosives supply to include the operation and maintenance of an on-site emulsion manufacturing plant, raw material inventory management, and the execution of loading, initiation and blasting activities.
The contract also provides for specialised equipment and infrastructure to support underground mining operations, marking a first for the Senegalese market.
As part of the agreement, EPC Mineex will construct an on-site emulsion manufacturing plant and supply two mobile explosives manufacturing units (MEMUs). Five automated SPUR (Smart Process for Underground Repumping) units will also be deployed to support charging operations in underground mining environments.
In addition, the contractor will provide post-blast analysis and optimisation services using software developed by EPC Groupe. These services are intended to measure blasting performance, improve operational efficiency and help control environmental impacts.
EPC Mineex said the contract would also support Senegal’s local content objectives through on-site facilities, dedicated teams and the development of local technical skills.
“This new contract is a recognition of the commitment and professionalism of our teams in Senegal. It highlights the relevance of our integrated model, which combines technical expertise, operational excellence, innovation and close customer relationships,” said Rokhaya Sall, Managing Director of EPC Mineex Sénégal.
“We are particularly proud to support Sabodala Gold Operations over the long term while contributing to the development of local skills and the creation of sustainable value for surrounding communities,” she added.
The agreement gives EPC Mineex a long-term role in supporting production at one of West Africa’s major gold mining operations, while expanding its use of specialised equipment and integrated blasting technologies in Senegal.
