KANU Commercial Body Construction, a subsidiary of ISUZU, has officially launched its new R25 million manufacturing facility in Gqeberha, strategically positioned next to ISUZU Motors South Africa’s Vehicle Conversion and Distribution Centre. This investment is more than just a new building; it embodies a commitment to improving product quality, accelerating delivery timelines, and aligning with global standards in vehicle body building.

The modern facility boasts advanced fabrication technologies, including two state-of-the-art paint booths and a laser cleaning facility that enhances surface area preparation while significantly reducing environmental impact. It is equipped with additional gantry systems and innovative tools and fixtures, all designed to streamline operations and enhance the working environment for employees.

Ingo Epler-Brandenburg, CEO of KANU Commercial Body Construction, emphasised the significance of this investment. “This investment represents an important milestone for KANU as we continue building a stronger and more competitive fabrication business capable of supporting customer demand across South Africa and the broader African market.” He added that the facility’s enhancements not only position KANU for long-term growth but also contribute to local economic development and job creation.

The facility’s strategic location within the Aloes Industrial Complex in Wells Estate offers optimal access to key infrastructure, enabling KANU to improve operational efficiencies, product quality, and future expansion into crucial African markets. This move sharply aligns with ISUZU’s broader commitment to strengthening its manufacturing capabilities in South Africa.

Billy Tom, President of ISUZU Motors South Africa and Chairman of KANU, praised the investment. “KANU has been an important part of the ISUZU business in South Africa for many years, and this investment reflects our confidence in the region’s manufacturing potential and future growth opportunities across Africa.” Tom reiterated the importance of local manufacturing capability in nurturing a resilient automotive industry, furthering localisation, and supporting broader industrial development in South Africa.
