Metso introduces Sustainable Flowsheet Explorer

Metso has introduced the Sustainable Flowsheet Explorer (SFX), a cutting-edge tool designed to enhance the evaluation, simulation, and comparison of technological alternatives in mining and mineral processing.
By utilizing a validated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, SFX ensures precise and reliable assessments while significantly reducing the time required for flowsheet evaluations—from several weeks to just minutes.
Technology and solutions
This advanced platform integrates Metso’s extensive expertise in process technology and solutions across the entire mineral processing chain, from ore extraction to final metal production. Powered by Metso’s proprietary process simulation software, HSC Chemistry®, the web-based platform provides an intuitive 3D visualization of process flowsheets, allowing users to assess different configurations with ease.
Beyond evaluating technological alternatives, SFX enables users to analyze the role of automation in concentrating plants, helping optimize energy use, water consumption, and carbon emissions through Metso Plus solutions. Additionally, the tool can assess the impact of various tailings dewatering methods, including thickening technologies and advanced filtration systems.
By centralizing critical performance metrics within a single platform, SFX streamlines the decision-making process, providing clear visual insights that support more sustainable and efficient mining operations. Rodrigo Grau, Vice President of Process Performance, Minerals Digital at Metso, highlights the benefits of SFX, emphasizing its ability to deliver comprehensive evaluations of metallurgical performance and environmental impact, enabling mining companies to make well-informed choices from the early stages of a project.
