Walkabout Resources makes progress on Lindi Jumbo graphite mine

Walkabout Resources has made significant progress with its Lindi Jumbo graphite mine in Tanzania. With ore now successfully moving through the concentrating circuit and the commissioning team focusing on wet commissioning and achieving the designed throughput, the project is reaching key milestones.

The updates reflect a concerted effort to overcome challenges and optimize operations, positioning Lindi Jumbo to emerge as a significant player in the global graphite market, especially amidst changing dynamics like China’s export controls and the growing demand from the US and European markets.

The challenges with fuel supply to the burner for the rotary dryer are being addressed, and having the manufacturer’s representative onsite should expedite the resolution process. Once the burner is fully operational, it will pave the way for further commissioning of the screening and bagging circuits, streamlining the production process.

Regarding mining operations, despite weather-related disruptions, the recommencement of mining activities according to the three-year plan is promising. The increase in ROM high-grade stockpiles provides a buffer for uninterrupted plant throughput, demonstrating operational resilience. The recent production blast within the main high-grade zone signifies progress in accessing key areas of the deposit for processing, further enhancing the mine’s potential.

“Ore feed to the concentrator circuit at Lindi Jumbo is a huge step forward in Walkabout’s journey to becoming a major player within the natural flake graphite industry. It is the culmination of more than six years of feasibility, procurement, engineering, construction, and commissioning work undertaken by the Lindi Jumbo team and its contractors. We have achieved this milestone with a strong focus on safety, capital cost controls, partnering with the local community, support of our loyal contractors and the minimisation of shareholder dilution,” Walkabout’s Managing Director and CEO Andrew Cuningham said.
