TotalEnergies and Valterra Platinum forge strategic energy partnership at Mining Indaba 2026
Long term agreement prioritises safety, security of supply and sustainable mining operations
On the sidelines of Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026, TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa and Valterra Platinum officially entered into a long-term strategic partnership that places safety, sustainability and operational excellence at the centre of mining energy supply.
The agreement, signed by Olagoke Aluko, MD and CEO of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa, and Craig Miller, CEO of Valterra Platinum, establishes a framework for mutual value creation with safety and sustainability as its core pillars. The three-year contract secures uninterrupted energy supply through a combination of global logistical reach, on site infrastructure and tailored, high performance product solutions.
The partnership is built around four critical focus areas: Health and Safety, Security of Supply, Co Value Creation and Sustainability. Through the collaboration, Valterra Platinum will leverage TotalEnergies’ expertise to strengthen fuel storage capacity, enhance safety standards and accelerate its journey toward sustainable operations.
With mining operations often located in remote and logistically complex environments, uninterrupted energy supply is vital for productivity and cost control. TotalEnergies brings more than two decades of experience in serving the mining sector, ensuring reliable supply chains and minimising operational downtime.
“We have been partnering with the mining sector for over twenty years, and we continue to guarantee our customers a secure, reliable, and uninterrupted supply of energy through a combination of global logistical reach, on-site infrastructure, and tailored, high-performance product solutions,” said Olagoke Aluko. “We do this while focusing on reducing operational downtime and ensuring, even in remote locations, that mining operations remain productive.”
Beyond operational performance, the partnership is positioned as a catalyst for broader socio-economic impact. Both organisations have committed to inclusive procurement and the support of small enterprise development within the communities in which they operate. This aligns the agreement with South Africa’s broader development and transformation objectives.
“This agreement is more than a supply contract; it is a shared commitment to the highest standards of safety, enhanced operational efficiency and will accelerate our journey toward sustainable operations,” added Craig Miller.
By combining TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa’s global energy expertise with Valterra Platinum’s operational leadership, the partnership aims to establish a new benchmark for collaborative success in the resource sector. The focus on health, safety, security of supply and sustainability reflects a growing shift within the mining industry toward responsible, resilient and community centred growth.
