Terrahaptix, DiggingDeep ink drones supply deal for South Africa’s mining sector
Terrahaptix, a Nigerian drone company, has signed an exclusive agreement with DiggingDeep, a prominent firm connecting African mining operations with suppliers, to distribute its advanced drones to South African mining companies.
The drones will be used for various applications, including surveying and mapping mining sites, inspecting equipment, and monitoring hazardous areas. These capabilities significantly enhance safety by minimizing workers’ exposure to dangerous conditions. Additionally, the drones will aid in identifying mineral deposits and monitoring environmental factors such as air and water quality, showcasing their versatility in the mining industry.

Founder Nathan Nwachukwu emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “The mining industry is where we have the most customers.” South Africa becomes the fifth African country to benefit from Terrahaptix drones, joining Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria. With most sales already international, the company aims to solidify its position as a leader in Africa’s drone market within the next five years.
The global mining drone market is experiencing rapid growth, with adoption rates surging from 44% in 2018 to 65% today. Projections indicate the market could expand from $31.4 billion to $103 billion by 2031. Terrahaptix is well-placed to capitalize on this growth, supported by Africa’s mining renaissance and the escalating demand for electric vehicle (EV) batteries requiring critical minerals like lithium.
Having already surpassed its $1.6 million revenue target, Terrahaptix is on track to exceed $2 million in its first year. Its competitive edge stems from sourcing 80% of drone materials locally, ensuring competitive pricing and sustainability. Nwachukwu remarked, “This is going to help us solidify our position as a drone leader on the continent.”
With demand expected to rise further by the end of 2024, Terrahaptix is poised not only to dominate the African market but also to expand globally, strengthening its reputation as a key innovator in drone technology.
