Tataki mine in Botswana re-opened

Duma Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana, recently officiated the re-opening of Tataki Mine, a revitalized polymetallic operation formerly known as the Tati Nickel Mine after years of closure.

Located in the North East district the re-opening of the mine marks a significant step in Botswana’s commitment to driving economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development through strategic investment in the mining sector.

During the opening ceremony the President emphasized that his government is shifting “from talk to action” moving swiftly to create opportunities and foster an investor-friendly environment that accelerates real impact.

He announced that the mine is expected to generate 400 direct jobs, over 3,000 indirect employment opportunities and has committed to a minimum wage of P4,000. Additionally, the project will integrate cutting edge technology creating demand for highly skilled and trained workers, thereby uplifting Botswana’s technical workforce.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo highlighted the President’s directive for all mining operations to play a central role in uplifting nearby communities. She affirmed her ministry’s dedication to ensuring contextual benefits for local villages, including the implementation of a supplier development program to support local businesses and ensure inclusive participation in the mining value chain.
