Since its establishment in 2017, Trafo Power Solutions has maintained a consistent presence at Electra Mining Africa, recognising the exhibition as a critical platform for engaging directly with mining customers and showcasing solutions built for Africa’s demanding operating conditions.

What began as a business focused primarily on supplying dry-type transformers has evolved into a specialist provider of comprehensive electrical power solutions engineered around the specific requirements of each application. Today, the company delivers far more than standalone equipment, offering integrated power solutions that support mining, industrial and infrastructure operations across the continent.

This strategic evolution reflects the growing demand from mines for reliable fit-for-purpose power systems that can perform in remote, harsh and often unpredictable environments. From surface operations and underground mining to processing plants and critical infrastructure, power reliability remains central to productivity, safety and operational continuity.

Trafo Power Solutions now provides a broad range of solutions including dry-type transformers, mini substations, mobile substations, containerised power solutions, switchgear and fully engineered electrical distribution systems. Each solution is designed around the realities of the application, taking into account environmental conditions, mobility requirements, site constraints, safety considerations and long-term operational efficiency.

“The mining sector has become far more focused on total power reliability rather than simply purchasing individual pieces of equipment,” David Claassen, Managing Director of Trafo Power Solutions, says. “Customers are looking for engineered solutions that address the full operational requirement and these must be solutions that are practical, efficient and built to perform in demanding African conditions.”

From transformers to fully integrated electrical systems, Trafo Power Solutions delivers fit-for-purpose solutions tailored to customer requirements.
The company’s approach is rooted in engineering rather than standard product supply. Every project begins with understanding the customer’s operational challenge and designing a solution that addresses both immediate needs and long-term performance objectives.

“Our presence at Electra Mining Africa has always been important because it allows us to stay close to our customers and understand how their needs are evolving,” Claassen adds. “Since 2017, this event has been a valuable part of our strategy because mining customers want partners who are accessible, responsive and capable of delivering real technical support.”

Its continued participation at Electra Mining Africa reflects this customer-focused strategy. The event provides an important opportunity for face-to-face engagement with mines, EPCM contractors, project houses and industrial customers looking for dependable electrical infrastructure solutions.

Visitors to the Trafo Power Solutions stand at Electra Mining Africa 2026 will have the opportunity to engage directly with the company’s technical specialists and explore how tailored power solutions can improve reliability, flexibility and efficiency across mining operations.

As mining operations place increasing emphasis on uptime, energy efficiency and project execution certainty, Trafo Power Solutions continues to position itself as a trusted engineering partner, delivering electrical power solutions designed not only to perform, but to endure.

Visitors to Electra Mining Africa 2026 can expect more than just equipment on display at the Integrated Pump Technology stand – they will have direct access to one of Africa’s most experienced specialist dewatering teams.

As one of the most recognised and consistently high-impact exhibitors at this leading mining industry event, Integrated Pump Technology will once again use its presence at Electra Mining Africa to demonstrate why its dewatering solutions continue to deliver results across some of the continent’s toughest mining environments.

From emergency flood response and unexpected groundwater ingress to the design and implementation of long term mine dewatering strategies, the company has built an enviable reputation for understanding complex applications and providing solutions that work in the real world.

According to Jordan Marsh, Managing Director of Integrated Pump Technology, dewatering is rarely a one-size-fits-all exercise and success depends on understanding the specific realities of each operation.

“Every mine presents different challenges, from seasonal flooding and pit dewatering to underground water management and high-volume transfer applications,” Marsh says. “Success depends on selecting the right technology, sizing equipment correctly and ensuring rapid deployment when production is at risk. Our role is to make sure customers have a solution that is practical, reliable and aligned to both their immediate and long-term operational requirements.”

Integrated Pump Technology’s team has extensive experience across Africa in supporting mines facing exactly these challenges. Whether responding to urgent operational crises where downtime carries major financial consequences or working with customers to develop scalable long term pumping infrastructure, the company focuses on practical application-driven solutions.

At Electra Mining Africa 2026, visitors will be able to engage directly with these dewatering specialists to discuss their own site challenges and explore the most effective options for both immediate and future requirements.

Grindex submersible pumps are designed to deliver efficient and reliable dewatering performance in demanding underground and surface mining environments. Picture: Supplied.

On display will be pumps from the world-class brands represented by the company including Godwin diesel-driven pumps and Grindex electric submersible pumps. Together, these product ranges cover the full spectrum of dewatering requirements across mining, quarrying, construction and industrial applications.

Godwin diesel-driven pump sets are well known for their reliability, rapid deployment capability and performance in demanding open pit and emergency dewatering applications, while Grindex electric submersible pumps provide robust and efficient solutions for underground operations, high-head duties and continuous heavy-duty pumping requirements.

This combination allows Integrated Pump Technology to offer customers the flexibility of both short-term emergency intervention and permanent dewatering strategies designed to evolve with the mine over time.

In South Africa, customers are supported through a strong strategic distributor network that ensures fast and easy access to pumps, spare parts and technical support. This local accessibility is critical in dewatering applications where response times can directly affect production continuity and site safety.

Across the rest of Africa, Integrated Pump Technology has concluded several agreements with trusted regional partners, positioning the business to strengthen customer support while continuing to expand its footprint across key mining territories.

“Our intention is clear – we want to be the leading dewatering pump specialist in Africa,” Marsh says. “That is not simply about supplying pumps, it is about being responsive to customer needs, understanding their operating conditions and ensuring they have access to the right equipment, parts and technical expertise wherever they operate.”

He adds that Electra Mining Africa remains one of the most valuable platforms for face-to-face engagement with customers and industry stakeholders.

“This exhibition allows us to have meaningful technical conversations with customers who are dealing with real operational challenges,” he says. “It is an opportunity to demonstrate that successful dewatering starts with specialist knowledge and that the right partner can make a significant difference to productivity, safety and profitability.”

For operations where water management directly impacts performance, Integrated Pump Technology’s message is clear – reliable dewatering is built on expertise, responsiveness and partnerships that deliver long after the equipment is installed.

For many operations across mining, quarrying, bulk materials handling and processing industries, conveyor problems have become an accepted part of daily operations. Misalignment, carryback, spillage, belt damage, idler wear and unplanned stoppages are often treated as isolated maintenance issues, addressed through reactive component replacement before operations move on to the next failure.

According to conveyor specialist Tru-Trac Rollers (Pty) Ltd, this approach is one of the primary reasons why conveyor failures continue to repeat across the industry.

As the company prepares for Electra Mining Africa 2026, Shaun Blumberg, COO of Tru-Trac, says its focus will not simply be on showcasing products but rather on changing how operations think about conveyor performance and the underlying causes of recurring system failures.

“Conveyor problems rarely exist in isolation,” Blumberg explains. “Replacing a component without understanding the cause often leads to the same failure returning. What may initially appear to be a tracking issue, for example, can quickly escalate into carryback, spillage, belt damage, excessive component wear and ultimately unplanned downtime.”

Tru-Trac believes that many conveyor systems are still managed incorrectly because visible symptoms are addressed without identifying the underlying system behaviour driving the problem.

This creates what Blumberg describes as an industry-wide “failure loop” – misalignment occurs, carryback increases, idlers and pulleys wear prematurely, spillage and belt damage follow, production interruptions occur, emergency maintenance is performed and the same problem returns shortly afterwards.

While these issues are often categorised as maintenance concerns, he argues that the impact extends far beyond the maintenance department.

“Conveyor performance is not only a maintenance concern. It is a production issue,” Blumberg says. “When conveyor systems underperform, the effect is felt across uptime, throughput, labour requirements, housekeeping, safety performance, belt life and ultimately overall plant efficiency.”

This thinking forms the basis of Tru-Trac’s engineering-led approach to conveyor performance support.

Rather than positioning itself as a supplier of individual components in isolation, Tru-Trac positions itself as a conveyor performance partner focused on diagnosing root causes, reducing repeat failures and improving long-term operational reliability.

Central to this approach is a structured five-step process that begins with understanding the conveyor system as a whole.

Visit Tru-Trac at Electra Mining Africa 2026 to discover how advanced conveyor tracking, monitoring and optimisation solutions can improve performance, enhance reliability and reduce unplanned downtime. Picture: Supplied.

The first step involves assessing the full conveyor environment rather than focusing only on the visibly failed component. This includes evaluating system conditions, loading behaviour, belt tracking characteristics, transfer points, material build-up and operational conditions that may be contributing to ongoing performance problems.

Once the broader system has been assessed, Tru-Trac focuses on identifying the root cause behind the visible symptom.

“Misalignment, carryback, spillage and belt damage are often connected symptoms,” Blumberg explains. “The visible problem is not always the primary problem. Engineered intervention starts with understanding the system.”

Only once the root cause has been identified does product specification follow. He says engineering judgement and application understanding must always come before selecting a corrective intervention.

Tru-Trac then works with operations to ensure the correct solution is implemented properly on site before continuing with ongoing technical support, inspections and performance monitoring aimed at sustaining long-term conveyor reliability.

This shift from reactive maintenance towards engineered conveyor performance is expected to form a major part of Tru-Trac’s discussions with customers at Electra Mining Africa 2026.

The company believes the industry is increasingly recognising that conveyor failures cannot be solved sustainably through repeated replacement of individual components alone.

“Reactive maintenance fixes what breaks,” Blumberg says. “Engineered performance focuses on diagnosing, specifying, implementing and supporting the correct long-term solution.”

At Electra Mining Africa 2026, Tru-Trac aims to engage directly with operations around the broader production impact of conveyor instability and the importance of system-level diagnosis.

He says the company wants customers to move beyond viewing conveyor problems as routine maintenance frustrations and instead recognise them as operational performance issues that directly affect production targets, operating costs and reliability.

By focusing on root-cause analysis, engineered intervention and long-term performance support, Tru-Trac believes operations can significantly reduce repeat failures while improving uptime, belt life and overall conveyor reliability.

As conveyor systems continue to play a critical role in modern mining and bulk materials handling operations, Blumberg says the industry must move beyond reactive thinking and towards a more integrated approach to conveyor performance management.

“The goal is not simply to sell a component,” Blumberg concludes. “The goal is to improve conveyor performance.”

Industrial sectors form the backbone of the South African economy. Mining, power, electrical, automation, transport, and local manufacturing each play a distinct yet interconnected role in driving economic growth, employment, exports, and industrial development. However, capital equipment purchases in these sectors are complex, high-cost, and long-term investments that rely heavily on trust and strong supplier relationships.

Electra Mining Africa uniquely brings together all levels of the capital equipment decision-making chain in one environment, making it a powerful platform for building those relationships. This unmatched ability to facilitate meaningful, face-to-face engagement positions the show as a key driver of growth across South Africa’s industrial landscape.

The event connects potential clients directly with industry leaders, engineers, technical specialists, and local partners, enabling side-by-side comparison of suppliers and brands. Visitors can explore equipment, technologies, and solutions in one location, making it easier to assess specifications, localisation levels, and support models. The show also enables detailed technical discussions around systems, components, automation, electrification, and digital solutions, supported by case studies and expert insight. These interactions are difficult to replicate through other marketing channels and highlight the unique value of a large-scale tradeshow environment.

According to Eric Bruggeman, CEO of the South African Capital Equipment Export Council (SACEEC), South Africa exports R220-b

illion worth of mining technology globally each year, with export activity often increasing in the 6–12 months following Electra Mining Africa. This uplift is attributed to the show’s ability to stimulate the market, generate qualified leads and support deal-making that feeds into the next investment cycle. “South African engineers are leaders in innovation and technology development, creating solutions for real-world industry challenges. The country’s leading mining technologies will be on display at Electra Mining Africa this September,” he says.

Electra Mining Africa 2024 was the biggest show to date, with 950 exhibitors across 6 exhibition halls and 4 outside areas, and 40 000 visitors in attendance.

Charlene Hefer, Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group Africa, organisers of the show, says “this year’s edition will be even larger and more dynamic, featuring over 1000 exhibitors, expanded floor space and a new outdoor ‘orange zone’ to accommodate additional OEMs and service providers. International exhibitors include companies from Australia, Austria, Canada and Poland. Beyond the exhibition floor, the event offers valuable networking, collaboration and knowledge-sharing opportunities through seminars, technical workshops and informal engagement across the industrial ecosystem.”

As part of its commitment to delivering high-value, free-to-attend content, the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) will host the Seminar Theatre, reinforcing its role as a technical partner and creating opportunities for professional engagement around key industry themes.

The Society for Automation Instrumentation Mechatronics and Computer Engineering (SAIMC) will present industry workshops on the second day, while the SA Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) will host the Skills and Career Hub throughout the event.

Visitors can also look forward to the return of the popular Forklift Driver Competition, organised by Lifting Africa. Winners of the Innovation and New Products Awards, a joint initiative between Electra Mining Africa and SACEEC, will be announced on the final day of the show.

“Electra Mining Africa is more than an exhibition; it is a cornerstone of South Africa’s industrial sector,” says Hefer. “Since its inception in 1972, it has facilitated billions in trade between exhibitors and local and global customers, connected SMMEs with global brands and helped build resilient supply chains. By attending this September, visitors become part of a long-standing tradition of industry excellence and gain access to a platform that continues to launch major innovations.”

Electra Mining Africa will take place at Nasrec, Johannesburg between 7-11 September 2026. Visitors can register at www.electramining.co.za for free standard access to the exhibition. An upgraded visitor package is also available at R600 per person per day, or R2,000 per person for the full week, offering added comfort, convenience and exclusive benefits to enhance the overall experience.

South Africa’s mining, manufacturing, power, transport, and industrial sectors remain at the heart of the country’s economic engine, driving growth, employment, and value creation across multiple industries.

Electra Mining Africa continues to play a central role in bringing these sectors together, creating a platform where innovation, collaboration, and business development intersect.

The biennial trade show has announced an important expansion for its 2026 edition with the introduction of a new outside exhibit area, known as the Orange Zone. Located in the Arena at the Expo Centre, the additional space responds directly to strong exhibitor demand for outdoor display opportunities.

“The new Orange Zone provides the additional space needed to accommodate more companies that want to showcase their equipment and innovations outside,” says Charlene Hefer, portfolio director at Montgomery Group Africa.

Industry confidence in the show is already evident. With just under eight months remaining before the event, Electra Mining Africa 2026 is already 98 percent sold out, reinforcing its reputation as a proven platform for lead generation, deal-making, and long-term partnerships.

Taking place at Nasrec, Johannesburg from 7 to 11 September 2026, Electra Mining Africa is a six-in-one trade show that brings together Electra Mining Africa, Automation Expo, Elenex Africa, PowerEx, Transport Expo, and the Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo.

It is the largest exhibition of its kind in Southern Africa and ranks among the biggest mining and industrial shows globally.

“We are really excited about Electra Mining Africa 2026,” says Hefer.

“The 2024 event was the biggest ever show since the inaugural edition in 1972, hosting 950 exhibitors across six exhibition halls and four outside exhibit areas, with almost 40 000 visitors attending. Now, with the addition of the Orange Zone, a new SAIMechE Career and Skills Hub, and other exciting initiatives, Electra Mining Africa 2026 is set to be even bigger.”

Maintaining its market leading position in conveyor solutions, Tru-Trac unveiled an innovative system at Electra Mining Africa which will have a major impact on all operations that use conveyor belts.

Early detection of potential issues on conveyor systems is crucial in mining and other materials handling applications and to address this need, Tru-Trac introduced the Rip Prevent+ system. This cutting-edge monitoring technology, which is set to disrupt the sector, identifies and mitigates conveyor belt anomalies and damages, thereby minimising downtime and enhancing efficiency and productivity.

The Tru-Trac Rip Prevent+ system, now available in Africa, allows mines to optimise their conveyor lines’ performance by preventing costly interruptions due to rip events. The system has already proven effective in global mining operations and was debuted locally at Electra Mining Africa.

AI features

Using a data-driven model and artificial intelligence (AI), the Tru-Trac Rip Prevent+ system can detect anomalies or rip events on any conveyor belt type, including metal cord, pipe and fabric belts. The innovative system was designed to avoid the need for sensor elements inside the belt, making it versatile for all conveyor systems.

The Rip Prevent+ system analyses data from the conveyor belt using an AI-based model. This AI, combined with an innovative algorithm, detects anomalies and rips, generating data and signals that allow customers to stop the conveyor line before significant damage occurs. The system’s model computes data 50 times per second and can generate a signal to the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) within 0.2 seconds, reducing the impact of rip events.

By stopping the conveyor belt when a possible rip event is detected, the system minimizes associated damage, potentially saving millions in downtime, belt replacement, and cleanup costs. The system’s data-driven model offers significant advantages over inductive, magnetic and laser- based systems including reduced wear risk, suitability for all conveyor types and lower investment costs.

The Rip Prevent+ system is web-based and accessible via an Ethernet network connection, featuring a user-friendly interface with a dashboard displaying key information. Additionally, the system incorporates several functions beyond rip detection, including mass flow calculation, condition monitoring, drive or motor monitoring, energy efficiency and electrical network analysis, aligning with predictive maintenance strategies.

The Rip Prevent+ system is also easy to install, requiring only 30 minutes to an hour, with minimal downtime for electrical connections. Commissioning the system can be completed within two to five hours, depending on preparatory work and available system parameters. Notably, Rip Prevent+ is the first rip detection system offering a more affordable alternative through a subscription model that minimises initial capital investment.

In what is probably the most exciting development in the dewatering pump industry is the news that IPR (Integrated Pump Rental) has become part of Atlas Copco’s Specialty Rental Division within the Power Technique Business Area. Announced just ahead of Electra Mining Africa, this acquisition is expected to bring significant benefits to the mining sector.

Lee Vine, Managing Director of IPR, says the mining industry, known for its complex and demanding operations, relies heavily on effective water management solutions to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

“We have seen a shift where dewatering pumps, essential for managing water ingress and maintaining dry working conditions, are increasingly being rented with appropriate accessories,” he says. “This trend is driven by several factors that reflect the evolving needs and challenges of the mining sector and our recent acquisition by Atlas Copco will allow us to continue to grow both our geographic footprint in Africa while increasing our already comprehensive dewatering pump rental fleet.”

The company’s recent participation at Electra Mining Africa highlighted some of the pumps within its extensive range. This included Atlas Copco diesel self-priming pumps and submersible units as well as the range of Toyo heavy duty slurry pumps and IPR’s in-house designed SlurrySucker dredging unit.

“It is a fact that renting dewatering pumps offers mining companies a significant degree of flexibility,” Vine explains. “Instead of committing substantial capital to purchase equipment, companies can allocate resources more efficiently by renting dewatering pumps as needed. This approach allows for better financial planning and reduces the burden of maintenance and storage costs associated with owning dewatering equipment.”

Market

Vine says the rental market for dewatering pumps is highly competitive, and IPR has stayed ahead of the curve by continuously updating its rental fleet to include the latest technological advancements. This, he says, means end-users benefit from access to state-of-the-art pumps that offer improved efficiency, reliability and environmental performance.

“Feedback from our customers underscores the major advantage that renting offers in terms of being able to leverage the newest technology without the need for frequent capital expenditures,” he says.

Another important advantage when renting dewatering and other pump solutions is that the mining operations can choose pumps that are tailored to the specific requirements of their projects. Whether the need is for high volume water removal, handling abrasive materials or operating in challenging conditions, IPR offers a diverse range of pump types and configurations which ensures that the most suitable equipment is selected for specific application needs.

IPR offers the market the advantage of comprehensive maintenance and support services, ensuring rented pumps and ancillary equipment remain in optimal working condition. “This reduces downtime and the risk of operational disruptions due to equipment failure,” Vine says. “Additionally, our experienced and skills team can provide valuable insights and assistance, further enhancing the efficiency of dewatering operations.”

“The ability to scale dewatering solutions up or down based on project demands is another significant advantage when renting pumps. This is important for both underground and surface mining operations, which often face fluctuating water management needs, as they can quickly adjust their dewatering capacity by renting additional pumps or returning underutilised equipment,” he continues. This scalability ensures that mining companies can respond rapidly to changing conditions without the delays associated with procuring new equipment.

The IPR rental fleet comprises modern dewatering pumps designed to meet stringent environmental and regulatory standards. By renting newer models, mining companies can ensure compliance with environmental regulations, reducing the risk of penalties and contributing to sustainable mining practices. Advanced features such as energy-efficient motors and reduced emissions are increasingly called for, and the company can accommodate these requirements.

Integrated Pump Technology, a leading provider of pump solutions to the mining industry, will use Electra Mining Africa to highlight its recent appointment as an official Godwin distributor as well as its position as a pump supplier of choice in Africa.

Already recognised as the sub-Saharan distributor for the world class Grindex submersible pumps, the company has now expanded its portfolio to include the highly sought-after Godwin diesel-driven dewatering pump range.

Jordan Marsh, Managing Director of Integrated Pump Technology, emphasises the company’s goal of becoming a leading single-source provider of pump solutions. “The addition of a solid range of diesel-driven pump solutions allows us to cater to a much wider spectrum of applications,”says Marsh. “Godwin recognised our team’s extensive experience with both electrical and diesel-driven pumps, making us the ideal partner to expand their footprint in Africa.”

Distributor network

Integrated Pump Technology’s strategic distributor network ensures extensive reach and high levels of support in major mining areas across South Africa, as well as Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and the DRC. The company’s strong presence on the Copperbelt underscores its capability to support both large and small mining operations with its expanded range of pump solutions.

Marsh underscores the importance of the distributor network, stating, “Our operating model allows for rapid response times to customer requests. Our commitment to localisation in the regions where we operate is based on the understanding that local people know their own country, culture and mining operations best. By upskilling local teams, we are giving back to the countries where we operate and ensuring that we provide appropriate pump equipment and solutions with the correct level of parts stockholding and support.”

The African mining sector demands robust and high performance products, and both Grindex and Godwin have established reputations for quality and reliability. The Grindex electrical submersible range covers applications from dewatering to slurry, while the extensive Godwin diesel-driven range meets needs from small dewatering requirements to surface mining and quarrying applications with lifts up to 300 metres.

Grindex submersible pumps are renowned for their reliability and efficiency, particularly in challenging mining environments. The range includes dewatering, sludge and slurry pumps, designed to handle various applications.
