PDAC 2026 reflects growing global momentum for mineral exploration and development

Record attendance highlights optimism across the global mining sector

The global mineral exploration and mining community gathered in record numbers at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada Convention 2026, continuing a 94-year tradition of connecting industry leaders, governments, investors, Indigenous communities and students.

Held in Toronto, the convention welcomed 32,155 participants from around the world, marking the highest participation in the event’s history. The event is organised by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, widely recognised as one of the world’s most influential platforms for mineral exploration and mining discussions.

Participants from across the mining value chain used the four-day event to exchange ideas, explore investment opportunities and discuss the evolving landscape of mineral exploration and project development.

“There was a clear sense of energy throughout the convention,” said PDAC President Karen Rees. “Strong commodity markets are contributing to optimism across the sector. At the same time, governments and the public are recognizing more clearly how essential minerals are to economic growth, electrification, defence and modern technologies.”

Largest trade show in PDAC history

The 2026 convention also set a new benchmark for exhibition participation, with more than 1,300 exhibitors showcasing technologies, services and exploration projects. The trade show occupied both the North and South buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, creating the largest exhibition footprint in PDAC’s history.

Throughout the convention, hundreds of expert presenters delivered insights on the opportunities and challenges shaping mineral exploration, project development and financing. The event also facilitated extensive networking, investment discussions and deal-making among global stakeholders.

Government participation played a significant role in this year’s convention. Representatives from countries around the world joined Canadian policymakers from municipal, provincial and federal levels, highlighting the increasing global focus on mineral supply, investment and policies that support responsible resource development.

“Government policy choices play a critical role in supporting the mineral sector and ensuring Canada remains a global leader in mineral exploration and development,” Rees said. “Proven, made-in-Canada exploration tax credits and greater regulatory predictability are essential to maintaining Canada’s competitiveness and investor confidence.”

Beyond the convention itself, PDAC continues to advocate for the industry throughout the year, representing its members and promoting policies that strengthen the mineral sector.

“In a more complex global environment, a strong mineral sector is fundamental to Canada’s economic prosperity, supply-chain security and sovereignty,” Rees said.

PDAC thanked its volunteers, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and participants for contributing to the success of the convention. The organisation will welcome the global mineral exploration and mining community back to Toronto for PDAC 2027, scheduled for March 7–10, 2027.
