Nigeria seeks partnership to strengthen mining sector

The Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in Nigeria is seeking for stronger collaborations between the ministry and its agencies to promote growth in the mining and steel sector in the country.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mary Ogbe, made the call and emphasized that such collaborations would be instrumental in boosting the development of the country. During her visit to the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF), a parastatal under the ministry, Dr. Ogbe praised the existing mutual relationship between the ministry and SMDF. She asserted that further collaboration would aid the agency in achieving its mandate of fostering the nation’s economic growth.

The permanent secretary urged other mining industries to join forces with the ministry to address the various challenges currently faced by the sector. By maintaining a sustainable relationship with SMDF and other agencies, the ministry aims to fulfill their respective mandates for the overall benefit of citizens and investors.

Hajia Umaru Shinkafi, the Executive Secretary of SMDF, expressed gratitude to the ministry for its support in effectively repositioning the agency. She highlighted SMDF’s primary objective of enhancing both human and physical capacity in the minerals and mining sector, particularly in mining institutions, to enable them to fulfill their statutory functions.
