Multotec tackles mining’s hand injury risk with hammer-less screen solutions
New attachment solutions reduce hammer use, lower injury risks, and speed up maintenance in demanding mining environments
Hand and finger injuries remain one of the most persistent safety challenges in the mining industry, particularly during physically demanding maintenance work.
Addressing this long-standing risk, Multotec has introduced a new range of hammer-less screening media attachment systems designed to significantly reduce the hammering traditionally required during screen panel installation and removal.
The innovative systems are engineered to make screen media changeouts faster, easier, and far safer. By minimising hammer use and simplifying installation, they directly reduce the risk of hand and finger injuries, operator fatigue, and unplanned downtime in demanding mining environments.
“Safety is at the heart of every innovative solution we design,” says Denzyl Macauley, Screening Support Manager at Multotec.
“By reducing hammer use during panel changeouts, we are tackling one of mining’s most common safety hazards and helping to protect the people working on site.”
Traditional attachment systems often require repeated hammer blows, additional tools, and even hot work such as grinding or flame cutting, all of which increase injury risk and extend maintenance time.
Multotec’s hammer-less alternatives replace this with clip-in, snap-on or hand-pressure systems that require little to no impact force, even in confined or ergonomically challenging spaces.
According to Jean Laurens, Screening Support Engineer at Multotec, the benefits go beyond safety.
“By simplifying the process and reducing hammer blows, our attachment systems make screen panel changeouts faster, easier and safer,” he says. “That means fewer injuries, improved efficiency and far less disruption to production.”
The range includes several specialised solutions. The heavy-duty ERX system eliminates bolts, nuts, and hot work, while the Y-LOK system allows quick snap-on installation for trommel screens. CCX and HALO systems offer versatile clip-in options for various screening applications, enabling single-person changeouts by hand.
Multotec’s ACE fixing solution goes even further, requiring zero hammer blows and using hand pressure only, virtually eliminating impact and pinch-point risks.
Available through Multotec’s global branch network, these systems underline the company’s commitment to innovation, safety, and productivity. By reducing injury risks while speeding up routine maintenance, Multotec is helping mines create safer workplaces, increase plant availability, and achieve stronger operational performance.
