Marula confirms high-grade copper content in Kinusi mine

High-grade copper content in the stockpiled concentrates has been confirmed in Kinusi copper mine, in Tanzania. Marula Mining made the announcement and said assay results revealed the high grade copper content.

Three 10 kg samples taken from the Kinusi No. 4 open pit in late 2024 reported copper grades of 20.21%, 21.77%, and 22.64%, averaging 21.54%. These analyses were conducted by an independent, internationally accredited laboratory.

With these positive assay results, Marula Mining is finalizing initial sales agreements for up to 1,000 tonnes of copper ore with Swiss and UK-based global commodity trading groups. Although the company had anticipated completing these sales by January 31, 2025, the process has been delayed to incorporate the assay findings.

Mine optimization

The assay data will also inform the optimization of the Kinusi mine’s processing facilities. The development plan includes a two-phase approach: Phase 1 include implementation of a gravity concentration circuit, including coarse jigging and fines dewatering, aimed at producing 24,000 tonnes per year of high-grade copper concentrate. This phase is on track for completion in the first quarter of 2025.

The second phase will see introduction of a hydrometallurgical process featuring heap leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning to yield an initial 10,200 tonnes per year of copper cathode. These developments underscore Marula Mining’s commitment to advancing the Kinusi project and contributing to the copper supply chain.
