Objective
Lifezone Metals initially announced its plan to list on the NYSE in December 2022. The company believed that accessing the world’s largest pool of funding through the NYSE would help advance the development of the Kabanga Nickel Project and move closer to production in the coming years.
The Kabanga Nickel Project aims to mine and process high-grade nickel, cobalt, and copper refined metals within Tanzania. Tembo Nickel will continue its partnership with the Government of Tanzania to ensure the equitable sharing of benefits from the project. The Kabanga deposit is one of the world’s largest development-ready nickel resources and has the potential to utilize renewable energy for mining and refining operations.
Lifezone Metals highlights the significance of the Kabanga mine and its HydroMet technology in contributing to the clean energy transition and combating climate change. Nickel is a crucial component in batteries, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs). The demand for high-purity battery-grade nickel is projected to increase significantly by 2030, creating pressure on the market.
The Kabanga Nickel Project is located in Ngara, Tanzania, with mining operations expected to occur there and final metal refining taking place in Kahama. The project aims to create skilled and technical jobs and provide support to local communities in the Ngara District and beyond.
Lifezone Metals envisions becoming a major supply chain solution for automakers to meet the growing global demand for batteries. The company anticipates collaborating with the Tanzanian government and global resources company BHP Billiton DDS Ltd in the Tembo Nickel partnership.
Tembo Nickel is 84% owned by Kabanga Nickel and 16% owned by the Government of Tanzania. This partnership ensures the equitable sharing of key benefits, including revenue, infrastructure, skills development, and employment opportunities arising from the Kabanga project.
