Kenya shuts down operations at East African Portland Cement

The government of Kenya has halted operations at the East African Portland Cement. The Ministry of Mining, through Director Gregory Kituku gave the orders and cited debt arrears as cause of the shutdown.

The debt of Ksh. 525 million is in unpaid cement levy. Director Gregory Kituku said the company also failed to comply with government regulations and safety standards. EAPCC, which operates quarries in Kajiado and Sultan Hamud, has allegedly been conducting illegal mining activities since 2016.
