HMS Bergbau secures exclusive deal with South African mine for chrome ore project

HMS Bergbau has entered into agreement with Mantengu Ltd for chrome ore production

To capitalise on the surging global demand for chrome, German commodity and marketing company HMS Bergbau has entered into an exclusive partnership with South African mining firm Mantengu Ltd.

Under this agreement, HMS will be responsible for the entire production volume of Langpan mine for a minimum of 8 years, acting as the exclusive global principal marketer of the chrome ore concentrates produced.

Currently, the Langpan mine has a production capacity of approximately 40,000 tonnes of chrome ore concentrate per quarter. However, with the necessary infrastructural support and operational capacity that HMS will bring, the mine’s output is projected to increase to an impressive 70,000 tonnes per quarter.

This agreement is heightened by the booming global market for chrome ore, which is valued at an estimated USD 4.5 billion. Analysts forecast an annual growth rate of 5.5% for the sector over the upcoming years, indicating robust investor interest in this vital resource. Chrome ore serves as the primary raw material for producing chrome, which is essential for manufacturing stainless steel, alloy steels, and other critical metal alloys.

“We are very pleased to have concluded this long-term exclusive partnership with Mantengu Ltd. This expands our activities in trading and marketing materials into the growing chrome ore market. It is another important step in our diversification strategy, which is progressing very well as planned. Through this agreement, we secure access to a vital raw material that plays an essential role in metal production and many other sectors,” commented Dennis Schwindt, CEO of HMS Bergbau.

The partnership between HMS Bergbau and Mantengu Ltd marks a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration within the mining and marketing sectors. As demand for chrome continues to escalate, this alliance not only enhances the prospective growth of both companies but also positions them favourably in a competitive market landscape.
