High-grade zone unveiled at Asanko mine in Ghana

A new high-grade zone has been discovered at the Asanko gold mine in Ghana. Galiano Gold, in a joint venture with Gold Fields, made the discovery and said the zone was found below Abore pit at the mine. Abore is located along the Esaase shear corridor, part of the northeast striking Asankrangwa gold belt.
Infill drilling across 84 holes for 22,470 meters in the southern part of the deposit has produced better-than-expected results, including some of the best-ever results at Asanko. Notable intercepts include hole ABPC23-224 with 45 meters grading 12.4 grams gold per tonne, hole ABPC23-226 with 37 meters at 10.6 grams, hole ABPC23-239 with 54 meters at 3.3 grams, and hole ABPC23-228 with 41 meters grading 3.3 grams.

The new zone is mainly in Abore’s granite and is characterized by significant hydrothermal alteration and high-density quartz veining. It is open along strike in both directions and untested at depth. The company believes that Abore has significant upside potential beyond the current reserves, with significant intervals of high-grade gold along the entire 1,600-meter strike length of the deposit.
Galiano is conducting further drilling to determine the extent of the new mineralization. The company plans to update resource and reserve estimates for Abore and provide 2024 production and cost guidance after completing drilling in April.
