GoviEx Uranium eyes mining permit in Niger

GoviEx Uranium Inc is eyeing explorations in Niger. The firm confirmed it is discussions with the government, commence mining operations at its Madaouela uranium project.

The Madaouela Project holds promise for generating substantial royalty payments and taxes for the Nigerien government, which also holds a 20% stake in COMIMA, the local company overseeing the project. The Project is situated in the Agadez region in the northern part of the Republic of Niger adjacent to ORANO SA’s operations of SOMAIR and COMINAK and benefits from the existing infrastructure and an experienced local uranium mining labour force. The Project also includes a series of other deposits, that are anticipated to be mined by either open pit or underground methods.

Madaouela Project

GoviEx is also exploring potential investments from third parties to accelerate project development. They are committed to updating stakeholders on the progress of these discussions. The firm targets to begin exploration or risk losing their mining permit.

GoviEx’s Executive Chairman, Govind Friedland, emphasizes the company’s substantial efforts in exploration and project design, highlighting their cooperation with local contractors, employees, and engineers. Friedland underscores the project’s potential to create hundreds of jobs for the local community and emphasizes GoviEx’s ongoing commitment to Niger.

The Republic of Niger is currently the 7th largest producer of uranium in the world and was the largest supplier of U3O8 to Europe in 2022, accounting for approximately a quarter of total imports. The project therefore is advantageously placed in a mining friendly jurisdiction and currently has all major permits required for development.
