Eureka Gold Mine marks five years of production following US$50m revival
Eureka Gold Mine has produced more than seven tonnes of gold since its recommissioning in 2021, with investment in the operation also driving growth in employment and economic activity in the surrounding communities
Eureka Gold Mine in Zimbabwe marked five years of production, following the revival of the operation through an investment of more than US$50 million by Dallaglio Investments.
The milestone was commemorated through a community sporting event attended by mine employees, local residents, Government officials and business operators.
According to Zimbabwean broadcaster ZBC News, the mine has produced more than seven tonnes of gold since it was recommissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2021. Monthly production has also increased from 92 kg in September 2021 to 232 kg in August 2026.
The mine’s revival has contributed to increased economic activity in the surrounding communities, alongside growth in employment and access to social infrastructure.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo said the mine demonstrated what could be achieved through cooperation between Government, investors, traditional leaders, local authorities, workers and communities.
“This occasion is not merely about marking an anniversary; it is a celebration of what can be achieved when Government, investors, traditional leaders, local authorities, workers and communities work together towards a common development objective,” he said.
Before Dallaglio committed more than US$50 million from 2018 towards the mine’s revival and expansion, it had been idle for almost two decades.
Its revival has contributed significantly to the increase of employment, with operation employing 418 workers during construction. That number has risen to 699 since production began, while workforce has since grown to approximately 1 531 employees.
The five-year production milestone comes as Eureka continues to expand its operations, with further investment in processing capacity, exploration and power infrastructure expected to support the mine’s next phase of development.
