Botswana issues mining license for K.Hill project

The government of Botswana has granted Giyani Metals Corp. a Mining Licence for K.Hill battery-grade manganese project. This milestone was achieved months after filing the application in December 2023, following an Environmental Authorisation and securing surface rights from the Ngwaketse Land Board.
The license is valid for 15 years, with potential renewals of up to 25 years each under Botswana’s Mines and Minerals Act. The company is moving forward with the construction of a Demonstration Plant in Johannesburg, South Africa, expected to be commissioned in Q4 2024. This plant will produce battery-grade manganese for offtaker qualification, a crucial step before finalizing offtake agreements.
Enhancing project value
Giyani is also advancing a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) to build on its Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) from July 2023, with completion expected in 2025. The DFS will incorporate an updated Mineral Resource Estimate and data from ongoing optimization test work. The company aims to minimize environmental impact and operational costs while enhancing project value.
With US$26 million in financing secured from strategic partners, Giyani is on track to progress towards construction of the K.Hill project, positioning itself as a key producer of high-purity manganese for the electric vehicle industry.
“I would like to thank the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, the Department of Mines and everyone involved in our Mining Licence application process that has enabled such an efficient and professional process,” said Charles FitzRoy, President and CEO of Giyani Metals Corp.
