Barrick Gold unveils new academy at Buzwagi Mine

Barrick Gold Corporation has established a training academy at the old Buzwagi mine in Tanzania. The move marks a significant step forward in Barrick Gold Corporation’s commitment to leaving a positive legacy in the regions where it operates.
Buzwagi Gold Mine is an open pit gold mine in the Shinyanga Region of Tanzania, located 6 kilometres southeast from the town of Kahama. Barrick’s commitment to responsible mine closure practices underscores its belief that the end of mining operations does not signify the end of a site’s utility.
Barrick’s objective
By repurposing assets and investing in community development initiatives like the Barrick Academy, the company aims to ensure that former mining sites continue to contribute positively to local economies and societies for years to come.
The academy’s focus on providing tailored training programs for frontline managers underscores Barrick’s dedication to developing leadership skills and enhancing operational excellence within its workforce. With plans to train over 2,000 foremen, supervisors, and superintendents from the Africa and Middle East region within the next 24 months, the Barrick Academy aims to empower its personnel with the necessary skills to drive performance improvements and effectively manage their teams.
Furthermore, Barrick’s vision extends beyond internal training initiatives, as evidenced by its plans to incorporate contractors into the academy’s curriculum and expand course offerings to cover a broader range of disciplines, including financial leadership, advanced computer literacy, and safety training.
