Ausenco Services wins contract for Tumas uranium project in Namibia

Ausenco Services has won contract to deliver detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Management (EPCM) services for its flagship Tumas uranium project in Namibia.

This follows the successful completion of the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) and a subsequent Re-Costing Addendum in December 2023 by Ausenco. The parties will execute a Detailed Engineering agreement to advance key workstreams before the Final Investment Decision (FID) and the finalization of a full EPCM contract.

Tumas uranium project

The Tumas uranium project is an open-pit uranium mining development by Australia-based company Deep Yellow Limited (DYL) in the Namibia region of South Africa. The site lies approximately 80km to the south-east of the coastal town of Swakopmund and 80km to the east-northeast of the Walvis Bay Seaport. The project comprises a series of palaeochannel/calcrete-type uranium deposits composed of poorly sorted polymictic gravels and conglomerates with minor sands and silts.

John Borshoff, Managing Director and CEO of Deep Yellow, emphasized that this selection marks a significant milestone for the Tumas project. He highlighted Ausenco’s market-leading reputation, technical expertise, and proven track record in project delivery, noting that their involvement will add substantial value to the project amid a favorable outlook in the uranium supply sector.

Reuben Joseph, President of Ausenco, expressed pride in being chosen for this role, noting their deep understanding of the Tumas project’s potential and its Tier-1 status from their work on the DFS and the Re-Costing Addendum. He conveyed Ausenco’s commitment to applying their extensive engineering and project delivery experience to the successful development of the Tumas project.
