Atlantic Lithium granted environmental permit for Ewoyaa Lithium Project

Atlantic Lithium Limited has secured an environmental permit from Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its flagship Ewoyaa Lithium Project. This permit represents a significant milestone in advancing Ghana’s first lithium mine.
The Ewoyaa Lithium Project is situated in the Cape Coast region of Ghana, approximately 100 kilometers southwest of the capital, Accra, and near the port of Takoradi, providing an advantageous logistical position for export. Ewoyaa is known for its high-grade spodumene lithium deposit, which is a primary source of lithium for battery production, particularly for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems.
Approval process
The permit approval follows a thorough process, including the submission of the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and public hearings in the local communities of Ewoyaa and Krofu, which demonstrated strong local support for the project.
Neil Herbert, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Lithium, emphasized the importance of this achievement in progressing towards constructing the mine. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts with the EPA and local stakeholders, highlighting the company’s dedication to responsible environmental stewardship. The permit now allows Atlantic Lithium to proceed with the project’s development, bringing them closer to the “shovel-readiness” stage.
“This approval is a testament to Atlantic Lithium’s commitment to acting as a responsible custodian of the land on which we operate, which we consider to be imperative to the long-term success of the Project. We are delighted to have full backing from the EPA and our local stakeholders. We would like to express our gratitude to the EPA for their direction throughout the permitting process, which has enabled the advancement of the Project at pace.
