Andrada Mining contracts TOMRA sorting technology for Uis Mine in Namibia

Andrada Mining has contracted TOMRA’s innovation to feature on their expansion efforts at the Uis Mine in Namibia.
The firm acquired TOMRA XRT sorters which include TOMRA’s latest OBTAINTM software, a Deep Learning innovation software that brings precision to high-throughput particle sorting by accurately identifying properties of each particle, independent of the sorter’s capacity, through a Neuronal Network.
Tech innovation
The Uis tin mine, a major tin reserve in Namibia, is undergoing expansion to boost tin concentrate production from 1500 to 2600 tons per annum. The introduction of a pre-concentrating circuit with these ore sorters is key to this expansion, aiming to increase the tin content in the feed to the wet processing plant by 50%.
Andrada Mining has procured TOMRA COM Tertiary XRT 1200 sorters for coarse size fractions and two COM Tertiary XRT Fines sorters, equipped with high-resolution TS100C ejection modules for smaller particles. These modules significantly reduce energy consumption by using 90% less compressed air, thereby lowering operating costs while delivering a high-quality product.
The OBTAIN software enhances sorter performance by providing detailed and accurate data, aiding in process optimization and informed decision-making. This collaboration with TOMRA is expected to enhance production output, maximize mineral recovery, and improve ore quality, which will boost efficiency and earnings for Andrada Mining.
Anthony Viljoen, CEO of Andrada Mining, expressed pride in partnering with TOMRA, highlighting the benefits of TOMRA’s high-tech, reliable solutions. Helga van Lochem, TOMRA Mining’s Area Sales Manager for Southern Africa, emphasized the value their technology brings to Andrada’s operations, ensuring performance meets and exceeds expectations.
