Alphamin confirms board change as Paul Baloyi resigns

Long-serving IDC-appointed director steps down as the tin producer maintains focus on stable operations and governance continuity.

Tin producer Alphamin Resources has announced a change to its board of directors, with Paul Baloyi set to resign from his position effective January 31. The announcement was made in a company statement released on January 5.

Baloyi has served on Alphamin’s board since April 2017 as an appointee of the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC). His tenure spanned a period of significant development for the company as it strengthened its position in the global tin market.

In its statement, Alphamin acknowledged his service, noting: “The board of directors wishes to thank him for his contributions to Alphamin during his tenure.”

Alphamin is dual listed on the JSE’s AltX and the TSX Venture Exchange, providing it with access to both African and international capital markets. The company owns and operates the Mpama North and Mpama South tin mines, which form part of the Bisie Tin Project in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Bisie operation is widely regarded as one of the world’s highest-grade tin mining assets, with Mpama North playing a critical role in supplying tin concentrate to global markets. Tin remains a strategically important mineral, particularly due to its use in electronics, renewable energy technologies, and electric vehicle components.

Alphamin said the resignation will not affect its day-to-day operations or strategic focus. The IDC remains a shareholder in the company, and Alphamin indicated that it will continue to engage with its stakeholders as it manages board succession in line with regulatory requirements.

The company added that its board remains focused on operational stability, responsible mining practices, and long-term value creation as Alphamin continues to advance its assets in the DRC amid growing global demand for tin.
