Akobo unveils report on Segele mine development

Akobo Minerals has unveiled report on Segele mine citing significant advancement in the development with the completion of a crosscut between the Western and Eastern tunnels. This development is pivotal as it enables the commencement of stoping activities in the mine’s richest orebody area.

The Segele Gold Project is a high-grade gold mine located in the southern part of Ethiopia, within the country’s Arabian-Nubian Shield, which is known for hosting several gold deposits. Akobo Minerals began small-scale mining operations in recent years and has been advancing towards large-scale production. The company has been focused on both exploration and developing its mining capabilities to bring the project into full production.

Developments

The mining team has successfully reached the orebody from both tunnels, and the new crosscut enhances operational efficiency by connecting the two tunnels. This connection improves safety by providing a secondary exit, optimizes ventilation, and streamlines logistics. Importantly, it marks the transition from development work to stoping, which involves the extraction of ore from large inclined spaces, or stopes, within the orebody.

The strategic location of the crosscut between the Trial Stope and Stope 01 offers operational flexibility, allowing Akobo Minerals to explore both stopes simultaneously, rather than sequentially. This approach potentially accelerates the mining of Stope 01, where the richest ore is located, maximizing the efficiency and output of the mine.

These developments at the Segele mine demonstrate Akobo Minerals’ commitment to safe and productive mining practices, bringing the company closer to fully harnessing the mine’s potential.
