Sungrow expands energy storage solutions in South Africa with landmark 1,155 MWh C&I agreement

Global renewable energy leader showcases integrated solar, storage, and microgrid solutions at Solar & Storage Live Johannesburg 2026

Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system (ESS) provider, has strengthened its footprint in Southern Africa, showcasing its advanced solar and energy storage solutions at Solar & Storage Live Johannesburg 2026.

The exhibition spotlighted Sungrow’s integrated technologies designed to meet the evolving needs of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale energy markets across the region.

Businesses across Africa are increasingly seeking smarter ways to manage energy usage, enhance reliability, and optimise operational costs. To address these challenges, Sungrow develops solutions specifically adapted to local environments, from managing grid variability to supporting flexible deployment across industries.

By combining robust hardware with intelligent energy management, Sungrow enables organisations to create efficient, scalable, and resilient energy systems tailored to operational needs.

A major highlight from the event was Sungrow’s announcement of a 1,155 MWh commercial and industrial (C&I) battery energy storage systems (BESS) agreement with Herholdt’s Group in South Africa, its official distribution partner.

This landmark deal marks a significant milestone in Sungrow’s expansion in the South African market and reflects the growing demand for reliable and flexible energy solutions in the C&I sector. Deployment will occur in phases across South Africa, addressing a wide range of commercial and industrial use cases.

Leveraging Sungrow’s advanced BESS solutions, these systems are engineered to enhance power reliability, improve energy efficiency, and support the integration of renewable energy.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Herholdt’s Group as we continue to grow the C&I energy storage market in South Africa,” said Nigel Sun, President of Sungrow Sub-Saharan Africa. “This agreement reflects our shared confidence in the long-term potential of the C&I segment, as well as strong recognition of Sungrow’s solutions in delivering reliable and scalable energy storage for local applications.”

At the exhibition, Sungrow also highlighted its portfolio of solutions tailored for local market conditions. Featured technologies included high-efficiency inverters, utility-scale energy storage platforms, advanced C&I systems, and scalable microgrid architectures suitable for both grid-connected and off-grid applications.

Among the standout products is Sungrow PowerKeeper, a DC-coupled energy storage system designed for C&I environments. Its modular, stackable design allows businesses to expand capacity as energy needs grow, supporting long-term adaptability without major redesigns.

Sungrow’s integrated Microgrid Solution was also showcased, demonstrating how hybrid systems combining solar, storage, and conventional generation can provide stable, intelligent energy management for complex operations. This solution is particularly valuable for the mining sector, where remote sites demand resilient and flexible power solutions.

Additional technologies on display included the SG465 inverter, designed for high-performance large commercial and utility-scale projects, and the PowerTitan 3.0 utility-scale energy storage platform, engineered for enhanced safety, scalability, and lifecycle performance.

“Sungrow has been operating in South Africa for nine years and has built a strong regional presence to support projects across the continent,” said Nigel Sun.

“Our sales and solution teams span West, East, Central, and Southern Africa. With more than five channel partners, we have delivered key projects in South Africa, Botswana, DRC, and Zambia. Our focus is working closely with EPCs, installers, and asset owners to deploy integrated solar and storage solutions that strengthen energy resilience while improving long-term project returns.”

Throughout the exhibition, Sungrow’s technical and regional teams engaged with industry stakeholders on deployment strategies, system optimization, and long-term service support. By showcasing a diversified technology portfolio, Sungrow reinforces its role as a trusted partner in Southern Africa’s transition to resilient and sustainable energy systems.

Through continuous innovation, strategic regional investments, and strong partnerships, Sungrow remains committed to advancing future-ready energy infrastructure across Africa.
