OEM- standard Hansen gearbox repairs deliver reliability and extended service life
Why OEM- authorised Hansen gearbox repairs are critical in demanding industrial environemnts
Industrial gearboxes operate under extreme loads, high torque, and continuous-duty conditions, making precision maintenance essential for long-term performance. As the official OEM for Hansen gearboxes, BMG plays a critical role in ensuring that Hansen Industrial Gear Units (IGUs) continue to perform at peak efficiency throughout their operational lifespan.
BMG is authorised to repair Hansen IGUs strictly in line with the manufacturer’s documented procedures, ensuring that original design tolerances, alignment requirements and operational reliability are fully preserved. This OEM-standard approach is vital in demanding industrial environments where even minor deviations can lead to premature wear, vibration, and unplanned downtime.
Every Hansen gearbox entrusted to BMG is repaired by highly skilled service teams who work to stringent factory standards. Each gear, bearing, shaft, and housing is restored to meet original specifications for fit, alignment and performance, ensuring the gearbox is returned to service as close as possible to its original condition.
“BMG provides the highest level of care required for the complex design of these gearboxes, to ensure optimum performance in the demanding environments in which they typically operate,” explains Barry Stoltz, BMG’s Gears Regional Manager, Electro-Mechanical division (Gauteng, Northwest, Limpopo, Mpumalanga).
“Our objective is to return every Hansen gearbox to its original operating specification through authorised procedures and genuine components, ensuring long-term reliability and protection of each customer’s capital investment. It is critical that this service is undertaken only by Hansen approved specialists, as this is critical to maintaining the gearbox’s design integrity, operational reliability, and lifespan.”
The Hansen IGU design is engineered to optimise load distribution through precision components, including separate thrust bearings for axial and radial loads. This design significantly improves reliability in high-torque, continuous-duty applications. BMG’s repair process begins with a detailed incoming inspection and full disassembly, followed by thorough cleaning and preservation of all components.
“The Hansen IGU design optimises load distribution through precision-engineered components – like separate thrust bearings for axial and radial loads – improving reliability under high torque and continuous-duty conditions. The repair process begins with incoming inspection and full disassembly, followed by cleaning and preservation of all parts. Bore tolerances in housings, shafts and gears are measured to confirm dimensional accuracy. Maintaining these tolerances prevents excessive wear, vibration, and heat generation, thus extending gearbox service life.”
All bearings and seals are replaced as standard, and reassembly is carried out with meticulous control of bearing clearances and gear contact patterns. Fasteners are torqued to exact specifications, and gear mesh is verified to ensure optimal contact. Each gearbox then undergoes a no-load test to confirm temperature stability, lubrication performance, noise levels, and oil tightness, before receiving its final paint finish in the distinctive Hansen RAL 5019 capri blue.
No unit is released to a customer without completing a full running test to ensure that mechanical, thermal and lubrication performance meets Hansen’s stringent benchmarks. This rigorous testing regime provides customers with confidence that their gearbox will deliver dependable performance in service.
BMG’s OEM expertise, access to genuine components and strict adherence to manufacturer tolerances make the company a trusted partner across a wide range of industries.
The BMG team works closely with users of Hansen gearboxes in sectors such as water and wastewater treatment, mining, food and beverage and petrochemicals. Support is also extended to service providers operating in power generation, pharmaceutical plants, as well as port, rail, and road infrastructure.
