As global supply chains diversify and regional value chains strengthen, Africa stands at the threshold of a manufacturing resurgence. The upcoming Manufacturing Indaba, taking place from the 15 – 16 July 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, will spotlight Africa’s industrial transformation and the unprecedented opportunity to scale production, create jobs, and foster inclusive economic growth.
Leading the charge are South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, and Kenya – Africa’s most industrialised economies each contributing significantly to the continent’s industrial GDP. South Africa remains the most advanced manufacturing base, with strengths in automotive, mining equipment, and food processing. Egypt and Morocco are fast becoming global hubs for textiles, electronics, and renewable energy components, while Nigeria and Kenya are advancing agro-processing and consumer goods manufacturing.
Yet the greatest potential lies across the broader continent:
- Africa’s manufacturing market is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030
- The continent has the world’s youngest workforce, with 122 million people entering the labour market by 2035
- Africa holds over 30% of the world’s critical mineral reserves, vital for global clean technology manufacturing
- The AfCFTA will enable seamless trade across 54 countries, boosting intra-African manufacturing flows
