Made in Africa. Built for the World

Africa’s manufacturing sector poised for global impact

As global supply chains diversify and regional value chains strengthen, Africa stands at the threshold of a manufacturing resurgence. The upcoming Manufacturing Indaba, taking place from the 15 – 16 July 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa, will spotlight Africa’s industrial transformation and the unprecedented opportunity to scale production, create jobs, and foster inclusive economic growth.

Leading the charge are South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, and Kenya – Africa’s most industrialised economies each contributing significantly to the continent’s industrial GDP. South Africa remains the most advanced manufacturing base, with strengths in automotive, mining equipment, and food processing. Egypt and Morocco are fast becoming global hubs for textiles, electronics, and renewable energy components, while Nigeria and Kenya are advancing agro-processing and consumer goods manufacturing.
Yet the greatest potential lies across the broader continent:

  • Africa’s manufacturing market is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030
  • The continent has the world’s youngest workforce, with 122 million people entering the labour market by 2035
  • Africa holds over 30% of the world’s critical mineral reserves, vital for global clean technology manufacturing
  • The AfCFTA will enable seamless trade across 54 countries, boosting intra-African manufacturing flows

“The Manufacturing Indaba is where Africa’s industrial journey takes shape,” says Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Manufacturing Indaba. “Our focus is on building value chains, upskilling people, and exporting high-quality African-made goods to the world.”

Key topics at the 2025 Indaba include:
  • Localising production in automotive, agro-processing and green technologies
  • Building an inclusive workforce through skills development and SME growth
  • Unlocking financing and innovation for industrial scale-ups
  • Beneficiating Africa’s natural resources to add local value and resilience

Africa’s industrial future is being built now — and the world is taking notice.
