1094 carat diamond unearthed from Karowe Mine

A 1094 carat diamond has been recovered from the Karowe Mine in Botswana. William Lamb, President and CEO of Lucara, confirmed the report and said this diamond marks the sixth stone over 1,000 carats that Lucara has recovered from the EMPKS ore type in the South Lobe of the Karowe Mine. Its exceptional size and quality continue to showcase the unique characteristics of the Karowe ore body and Lucara’s reputation as a producer of large, high-quality diamonds.

The stone is similar to the 692-carat diamond found in August 2023, which was polished by HB Antwerp and sold for over US$13 million. The new 1,094-carat diamond will also be polished by HB Antwerp, highlighting the partnership between the two companies.

Potential

Mr. William Lamb commented on this significant recovery, emphasizing how it demonstrates Karowe’s potential and supports their investment in the underground expansion project. He expressed confidence in Karowe’s capacity to continue producing large, high-value diamonds, strengthening Lucara’s position in the high-end diamond market.

“As we progress with our underground development, we’re increasingly confident in Karowe’s capacity to produce these legendary diamonds well into the future,” said the CEO.
